Time Stop- a hug's new name

Life gets so busy that at times we are going through the motions. We are pecking a kiss on the kids head as we are ushering (or maybe pushing) them out the door for school while turning to give our hubby a kiss as he leaves for work only to miss and then accept a simple smile and wave instead.

I was feeling this way about some of our departures from the house, whether it be off to school, sports, work, etc, and feeling guilty that this was the interaction we were having before we headed out. If I wanted my family to leave ready to conquer the world and exude positive energy and kindness, I needed to be “fueling” them up with more than a peck and a push! We all needed what my kiddos and I now endearingly call a “TIME STOP” filled with Happy Unexpected Greatness.

Like me, sometimes my kids like to think about action words in unique ways and add some depth to them! I LOVE hugs and so one day we were talking about the word hug.

I asked the kids “what do you think hug stands for or what would you call a hug.”

I will forever remember their answers and my “definition” of a hug will never be the same!

Ben said hug is actually an acronym for Happy Unexpected Greatness =)

Sean said he would call it a “time stop.”

I asked him “why time stop?”

He replied “Cause when you give a hug it is a good time for time to stop and just enjoy the hug.”

Honestly a hug from that moment on has never been the same for me! Whenever my kiddos or hubby give me a hug, even if I am in the middle of juggling fire, I pause and “stop time” and deeply enjoy the moment and the embrace! It brings calm to my mood and and “reboots” my energy. We do big things throughout our day but sometimes it is simply enjoying those little moments that keep our perspective focused on what is REALLY important in life! Because life is so crazy and busy we should be pausing for just a couple seconds to enjoy those simple moments and connect with our loved ones. Ultimately those are the moments that are going to fuel our souls and push us to work hard, be positive and do great things for ourselves and others.
